The last two weeks have been filled with fun, fun, fun.  The long-awaited Fireman Bob came with his yellow fire truck.  The kids got to check out some fire equipment like hoses and sit in the driver seat of the truck and ring the bell!  We ended our community helpers unit with the kids telling us what they might want to be when they grow up.

This week we started to explore apples and pumpkins.  We learned that there are usually 3 different colors of apples.  Next week, we will be tasting the difference between the 3 and choosing which kind we like the best.  We will also talk about what is inside of an apple.  Earlier this week we  made our own little apple trees and “hung” apples on them, then counted how many we put on.   To start talking about pumpkins, we cut our class pumpkin open to see what was inside!!!  It was so much fun!!!  We described the outside of a pumpkin as orange, round, and having a stem.  The inside was a lot different.  We used words like, slimy, sticky, wet and slippery.  Many of the kids had no hesitation to get their hands in the pumpkin and help clean it out!!  Next week we will be busy painting our own pumpkins, making a jack-o-lantern face, and more!

Don’t forget we are trick-or-treating at the school next Thursday, October 28!

September 27-September 30

This week we continued to talk about different community helpers such as truck drivers, doctors, librarians, teachers, and  photographers.  We had fun painting with truck wheels, drawing fire with chalk and putting it out squirt bottles.

We enjoyed our visit with Miss Anna, a librarian from the Darien Public Library.  In addition to reading us a two stories, she showed us many things we can borrow from the library besides books.

We are getting better at following the class routines.  We have been very excited to have class jobs.  Each child has a job that lasts the week, so they can get good at it.  We are working hard on taking turns talking and having listening ears.

Next week, we will finish our unit on community helpers.  Coming up on Wednesday, October 13, we will have a fireman visit us and bring a fire truck!

PICTURE DAY IS WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER  22.

Thank you for sending in the pictures for language group this week.  It will be a great carryover to what we have already talked about for our All About Me mini unit.  Most of you have already given me the title of your child’s favorite book.  We will be adding them to our “All About Me” shirts.

This week and next, we will be learning about different community helpers.  We will also be talking about 9-1-1 and Stop, Drop, and Roll.  On October 13, 2010, a fireman we visit us with his firetruck.  We are looking forward to it.
